snow stories

February 09, 2013

At some point in the past, Jesse Lacey said "snow is a perfect reminder that no matter how hard I try, God will always write better songs than I can." The exact quote is now lost somewhere in the internet archives and dates back to a time when the band was not totally jaded towards public communication. I don't mean to call them jaded people because I understand why one wishes to pull back from exposing all aspects of their life to complete strangers. I just miss the occasional effortless combinations of words they'd spit out sometimes - like the ones above, which I am conditioned to be reminded of whenever the sky decides to cover the earth with a cold white blanket of snow that leaves me marvelling at its freshness and purity.

Yesterday. 5:30am, I woke up to study for my econometrics midterm at 11:30am. It was still pitch black outside but I remembered when I woke up that they forecasted a heavy overnight snowfall. While I was waiting for my coffee to drip drip drip, I looked outside and it didn't seem too bad, but it sure was pretty. I dont even remember the last time that school was cancelled in University like this, but an hour later I got an e-mail calling for an official snow day. Midterm postponed until Wednesday! Macro assignment due on Monday instead of today! Well, alright, I'll take it. I had already had my coffee and jumping back into bed was not an option, so I just watched the story from the skies unfold for a little while longer as it got lighter outside.

I spent the better part of my day (while I wasn't running around town doing errands) cooking dinner for Alicia and Lucas - french onion soup and quiche. And, although this entire town seems to be out of persimmons, we decided to make these cookies anyways. Total comfort. Instead of the persimmons, I used what I had - my favourite chocolate. Oh my god, they're so good, and almost gone already.

Some older snow stories, here (back when I was a film only girl).
