twenty-two.

February 01, 2013

I turned twenty two years old last week. Twenty two! I know, I know, here I am, thinking I am the only person into the world who has ever turned twenty-two. But honesty? I'm loving my twenties so far and it's only upwards from here.

You know how they say that good things happen to you when you least expect them? Well, that is what happened on my birthday this year. It was just an ordinary Wednesday, but that didn't stop the people in my life from totally spoiling me.

Flowers delivered to me on campus. Best. Friend. Ever. Even though everyone in the library stared at me as I passed by, and I secretly loved it.

Alicia and Lucas made me an unforgettable four-courser that was all travel inspired! How fun. The girl is talented and the boy is skilled at washing those dishes 'til they really shine - and so much more, of course. That white stuff? Béchamel sauce that Alicia just whipped up. My favourite team ever, for sure.
(Meeeeeeow.)

Saturday was spent wandering around Guelph (mostly buying carefully selected cheese and eating carrot cake), and the night called for a wine and cheese feast. My friends and I obviously stuffed our faces with (exquisite) cheeses. But that's okay, because we danced it all off a little while later.

Sunday started with some brunching and a much clearer head than anticipated. The afternoon was spent in bed with my dearest friend eating left-over cheese while being totally transfixed by Never Let Me Go. Then, that night, my entire family came up to Guelph and we went for a special dinner.

... I'm really not used to being this spoiled.

Some inspiration for another year of life (from this video):
"Great work comes with that sense of 'I've stepped out into a place which is on the edge of myself, on the edge of my own competency, on the edge of my experience.' And you have these moments of going 'why don't I give up - this is too hard.' It's all about when you decide to go on and when you decide to give up. And great work is the work that keeps us asking the question 'is it worth standing up again and pushing or is it worth giving up?'"
Amen.
